WHOSE KID ARE YOU?

WHOSE KID ARE YOU?

Our daughter is expecting her first child, and our first grandchild, any day now!  We are all pretty excited!  There is something about children that lights up our life!  I love it when my kids call me or tell me how much they appreciate me.  Children and parents - that is the way God set up life and it is heartwarming!

There is an instance in the life of Jesus where some parents started bringing their children to Jesus for him to touch them and bless them (Mark 10:13-16).  Wouldn’t it be amazing to have Jesus touch you and pray a blessing over you, or even better do the same with your kids?  Imagine realizing that the Savior of the world, the Son of God, had personally touched your kids and proclaimed with his mouth a blessing over them! That would be pretty special!

When Jesus’ disciples figured out what was happening, they chased the parents and kids away with some harsh words.  They evidently thought Jesus had much more important things to tend to!  However, when Jesus saw what the disciples had done, we are told he was“indignant”!  Jesus was angered because he saw the disciples' actions as offensive and insulting.

Here were Jesus’ words to the disciples:

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

This statement from Jesus has always intrigued me and has been somewhat hard for me to grasp its true meaning.  The center of his statement circles around the kingdom of God and children being connected for everyone.  If the kingdom isn’t received like a little child, entering it isn’t even an option! Those are strong words from Jesus who has never lied!

This all makes me ask questions:  Whose kid am I?  Am I approaching Jesus with “childlike” faith?  I am reminded of John 1:12-13,“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.  They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”

Now go and act like the kid you are - children of Jesus!
